|aThe purpose of this project was to develop a course of study for parents that would help them build close relationships with their children. As part of this project, a manual was designed to help parents deal effectively with everyday problems they encounter in their parenting role as well as to provide parents with ideas and training to help them have more fun with their children

|aA leader's guide and participants workbook were the final results of the development process which included a pilot and field test of these materials. Participants in the pilot and field test gave many useful suggestions on how to improve this course of study

|aIn surveying the existing parent education materials, it was found that parents are usually presented with ten to twenty concepts in parenting classes or workshops. As a result of the author's years of parent education experience, it was obvious that most parents remember and grasp three or four new concepts within a parenting class. With this in mind, three topics were selected for this project. The first topic was Special Time, where parents spend individual, quality, private time with each child. The second topic was Encouragement, which the Adlerian parent educator believes to be the most important aspect of parenting. The third and last topic that was developed in this project was to teach parents how to organize and hold Family Councils
