McGuigan, PhD, CSCS,*D, is a professor of strength andconditioning at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in New Zealand.From 2009 through 2012, he was a sport scientist with High PerformanceSport New Zealand, where he worked with many elite athletes. He hasworked in a variety of academic roles at universities in Australia andthe United States.McGuigan is an associate editor for the Journal of AustralianStrength and Conditioning, Journal of Strength and ConditioningResearch, and International Journal of Sports Physiology andPerformance. He was the research and innovation coordinator for theNew Zealand Silver Ferns netball team from 2009 to 2015. His researchinterests are in the areas of strength and power development andmonitoring of athletes.He was the recipient of the NSCA’s William J. Kraemer Outstanding SportScientist of the Year award in 2016, the Journal of Strength andConditioning Research Editorial Excellence Award in 2010, and theNational Strength and Conditioning Association Outstanding YoungInvestigator Award in 2007.McGuigan lives in Auckland, New Zealand.
