內容簡介top The Book Thief 偷書賊 簡介 The extraordinary #1 New York Times bestseller that will be in movie theaters on November 15, 2013, Markus Zusak's unforgettable story is about the ability of books to feed the soul. It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will become busier still. Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement. In superbly crafted writing that burns with intensity, award-winning author Markus Zusak, author of I Am the Messenger, has given us one of the most enduring stories of our time. When I was growing up, I heard stories. I was glued to my chair in the kitchen while my mother and father told my brother, my two sisters and me what they saw when they were growing up. They told us about cities on fire, bombs falling down around their houses, and friendships that lasted through wars and time alike. One story still resonates the most, though: When my mother was six years old, growing up outside of Munich, there was a day when she heard a terrible noise coming from the main street of town. When she ran to see it, she saw that Jewish people were being marched to Dachau, the concentration camp. At the back of the line, there was an old man, totally emaciated, who couldn't keep up. When a teenage boy saw this, he ran inside and brought the man a piece of bread. The man fell to his knees and kissed the boy's ankles and thanked him...Soon, a soldier noticed and walked over. He tore the bread from the man's hands and whipped him for taking it. Then he chased the boy and whipped him for giving him the bread in the first place. In one moment, there was great kindness and great cruelty, and I saw it as the perfect story of how humans are. When I remembered those stories, I wanted to build them into a small book. The result was The Book Thief, and it came to mean much more to me than I could have imagined. This book means everything to me, and no matter what anyone ever says about this story, whether good or bad, I know it was the best I could do, and I don't think a writer can ask for more of himself than that. Thank you again and best wisahes always, Markus I must be honest when I say that I thought nobody would ever read this book. It took me three years and I thought I would never finish.
