This volume is the first in a series on Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education in OECD Countries. It presents eight U.S. case studies, four in science and four in mathematics. These studies give an indication of the kinds of innovations occurring in the United States and have been supported by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education. The project demonstrates how educators are transcending boundaries to search for the best available knowledge to improve the teaching of these subjects.
