Sansom (dance/drama education and early years pedagogy, U. of Auckland, New Zealand) explores the place of movement in young children's lives and how movement as a form of expression can become dance, as well as the issues involved with dance in education and the impact on children, students, and teachers in teacher education programs and early childhood settings. Coming from the perspective of her experiences in New Zealand, she challenges myths and stereotypes and traces the development of dance as education in Aotearoa with a focus on early childhood and elementary education, the connection of dance to physical education, the function of movement in many areas, and the implications of educational policy.
