Designed to meet the needs of the computer novice, this book is written for undergraduate and graduate students who want an up-to-date, readable, practical, concise introduction to computers. It assumes no prior experience with computers. It offers classroom activities and projects, clear illustrations, a recommended annotated software listing, a summary of current computer research, and an extensive bibliography. The chapters are written so that the reader can pursue them in any order. The new edition features a completely revised chapter 14 on programming, including HTML, an expanded and updated multimedia chapter (10), more emphasis on Special Education software and hardware, over 150 new illustrations, and a new annotated list of software (Appendix A). A new chapter 12 on the World Wide Web, includes sites, a site evaluation instrument, Web page creation, Netiquette, and Web Utlitiies. New discussions include such current topics as Quick Time VR, virtual reality, morphing, warping, videoconferencing, advanced technology labs and classroom ergonomics, and distance learning.
