In his work, Michael Triegel engages in a dialogue with the painting of previous epochs, particularly with works of the Italian Renaissance, Mannerism and Caravaggesque painting. Using these models as a point of departure, he has developed his own idiosyncratic pictorial language. The monograph provides the first profound survey of the extraordinary work of this young artist and "shows him excelling at all genres-still life, landscape, the nude, portraits" (Chicago Tribune).
